To get the diagnosis of Cervical Cancer after having Cervical Cancer Symptoms is bad enough, but there are several different types of cancer that the cervix can be afflicted with. Knowing which type of cancer you have that is causing your Cervical Cancer Symptoms helps the physician to determine the right treatment for you and your cancer. The histology of your particular type of Cervical Cancer that is the cause of your Cervical Cancer Symptoms is found under a microscope by carefully studying the formation of the cells of your cancer to give your physician the information that they need to treat you successfully.
Cervical Cancer is a disease that can take many different forms and have many different Cervical Cancer Symptoms. A pathologist takes the biopsy of your cancerous cells and carefully studies them to determine what type of cancer that you have, so you can receive the proper treatment for your Cervical Cancer Symptoms. Some of the most common types of Cervical Cancer that causes Cervical Cancer Symptoms include:
Squamous cell carcinoma – This type of cancer makes up 80 to 85-percent of the Cervical Cancer cases that cause of Cervical Cancer Symptoms. Squamous cell carcinoma begins in the surface cells of the cervix and is highly treatable when found early.
Adenocarcinoma – This type of cancer is responsible for 10 to 15-percent of the Cervical Cancers and Cervical Cancer Symptoms. This is more difficult to diagnose than squamous cell carcinoma, but is just as treatable when found early.
Small Cell Carcinoma – This is a rare type of Cervical Cancer. This is a very aggressive form of Cervical Cancer that does not have a very good prognosis.
Cervical sarcoma – This is another very rare type of Cervical Cancer that affects less than one-half percent of the women diagnosed. It is known as a very aggressive form of Cervical Cancer and is very difficult to treat. The mortality rate of patients with this type of Cervical Cancer is very high.
Neuroendocrine carcinoma – This is also a very rare Cervical Cancer type that is very aggressive in growth and in Cervical Cancer Symptoms. It has a poor treatment prognosis.
The histology of your Cervical Cancer has a big impact upon your prognosis and your Cervical Cancer Symptoms. As you can see from the types of Cervical Cancer above, the two most common types of Cervical Cancer, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma, offer a very good prognosis. The remaining three types of Cervical Cancer make up less than 5-percent of the Cervical Cancer cases, which means that your chance of survival is much greater than you may think, especially if your Cervical Cancer is diagnosed early due to Cervical Cancer Symptoms and/or a PAP smear.
